How to support teachers in becoming teachers as designers of student-centred approaches
We’re happy to share an academic article recently published by one of our partners, Heillyn Camacho, from Consufé, in collaboration with colleagues from Aalborg University (Denmark) and Gulu University (Uganda), titled “How to support teachers in becoming teachers as designers of student-centred approaches”.
The authors have identified a set of activities and tools, along with six design principles, essential for fostering effective teacher development with the field of teachers as designers. Those activities and tools are in the format of a Learning Designer Workshop, which distinguishes two main activities: introduction to Teachers as Designers (TasD) and a process to design courses within the framework of Student Centered-e-learning. The introduction of TasD includes three activities, and the design process is composed of five. Each activity is facilitated through a canvas, which was carefully designed to produce a concrete outcome, and materials such as markers, Post-it notes, Legos, flip paper, stickers and a deck of cards. The activities should take place in a design thinking environment to facilitate the physical, social and psychological dimensions of the design process.
We invite educators and educational institutions to explore the tools and activities outlined in this article. By incorporating these strategies into your professional development initiatives, you can enhance your capacity as a designer of engaging and student-centered e-learning experiences.
